The name derives from a toponym discovered in the notes of Giancarlo Ageno, the founder of the estate, where the words appear: “Costa Bosco. Bianche diverse. Malvasia.”, (“Hillside Woods. Distinct whites. Malvasia.”). With these words, he identified a vineyard of Malvasia di Candia Aromatica located between the side of the hill and the woodland, in a transitional area characterized by more filtered light and a microclimate influenced by the presence of trees.
In this context, Malvasia expresses distinctive characteristics: slower ripening, larger berries, and a distinctive balance between aromatic expression and structure. Ageno described this specificity with the expression “bianche diverse”, recognizing a difference observed directly in the vineyard.
We chose to develop this intuition by vinifying separately the grapes from this parcel, together with those from other estate vineyards with similar characteristics. Costabosco so comes into being as an expression of balance between light and shade, between ripeness and freshness.
The 2024 vintage was characterized by abundant spring rainfall, which required careful vineyard management, followed by a mild summer that favoured slow and progressive ripening. The harvest took place in several passes, between August 22–23 and September 10–14.
Fermentation took place in stainless steel, with skin macerations lasting between 10 and 30 days. The wine was aged for one year, partly in stainless steel and partly in large 40-hectolitre wooden vats. It was bottled on October 7th, 2025.
Costabosco presents a tense and balanced profile, with notes of aromatic herbs, ripe citrus fruits and dried flowers. Compared to Ageno, it stands out for greater freshness and lightness, with a more defined aromatic component and a more lifted expression.
